Engaging New Communities, Enhancing Research & Training

Building on the long-standing convening power of the Marine Biological Laboratory, BI’s (Building Innovation) faculty enhancement program is a new opportunity for postdoctoral fellows or early career faculty that have not previously been to the ǧƵ, experienced an MBL Advanced Research Training Course, or would like to re-engage with the ǧƵ after a 10+ year hiatus.

The aim of BI is to extend the ǧƵ experience to new communities of scientists using engagement with our Advanced Research Training Courses (ARTC) as a launchpad. Over the course of a week participants will have an in-depth look at the ǧƵ’s unparalleled resources, potential to foster new and exciting collaborations, and comprehensive overview of the ARTC faculty and opportunities within.

The 2025 BI – faculty enhancement program fully immerses the participants in an Advanced Research Training Course for a full week and is fully funded.   and is a fully funded 5-day program, engaging early career scientists in ARTC faculty opportunities at the ǧƵ in Woods Hole, MA.

Participants will:

Experience one or more of the advanced research training courses to see how students and faculty embrace “fearless science.” Courses can be viewed here.

Learn about the Central Microscopy Facility where the ǧƵ’s state of the art imaging and equipment and opportunities are housed.

Explore the Marine Resources Center (MRC) to learn about non-model organisms that might be applied to your research question and take a trip on the collecting vessel, Gemma.

Attend a Friday Evening Lecture – part of MBL’s storied summer lecture series.

Discover the charm and excitement of Woods Hole where six unique institutions create a “village of scientists.”
