.0    Policy Statement:
In accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, MBL prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of a controlled substance in the workplace.  The workplace includes all MBL property as well as any off-site location where ǧƵ business is conducted.  MBL is required to maintain a drug-free workplace and learning environment not only for the safety and health of its community, but also because it is a federal contractor and failure to comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act could result in the loss of federal funds.

.0    MBL is committed to the establishment of a drug awareness program to educate its community on the dangers of drug abuse and conduct periodic training.  MBL’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to provide assessment and referral for employees and their families who seek help through this confidential service.  Information about the EAP can be found on the Staff pages of the ǧƵ web site or from the Human Resources Office.

.0    Employees are required to adhere to the drug-free workplace policy as a condition of employment.  Employees are also required to notify their supervisors and the ǧƵ Human Resources Manager within five days if they are convicted of a criminal drug violation in the workplace.  Employees who violate the drug-free workplace policy will be subject to disciplinary action anywhere from required participation in an appropriate rehabilitation or counseling program up to termination.  At the time of hire, all employees receive information on MBL’s drug-free workplace policy as well as the EAP program.

.0    Faculty, students, and visitors are required to adhere to this policy as a condition of participating in MBL activities and of occupying laboratory or library space at the ǧƵ and, if found in violation, will be asked to leave the ǧƵ immediately without refund of fees and with the possibility of a ban from future use of MBL’s facilities.  Information about this policy is sent to them electronically prior to their arrival at the ǧƵ.

.0    For everyone’s well-being and safety, members of the ǧƵ community who are aware of a violation to this policy are asked to contact MBL’s Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Coordinator, ext. 7422, eeo@mbl.edu.
